Allow me to introduce myself…

I’m Monica Griffis, head of Communications and Marketing for the Sacramento Metro Chamber. In my current role, I lead strategy and operations for all things communications and marketing including web, social media, public affairs, media, advertising, email news, design, branding, and beyond.

Before my time with the Chamber, I served as the Social Media Manager for the California Department of Motor Vehicles where I strategically communicated services, news, and the mission of my respective department to over 30 million customers through various digital marketing efforts. Analytics, trends, and research are my favorite tools for being effective! Previously, I was the Graphics Technician for the City of West Sacramento. I’ve worked in government and nonprofits for the past decade doing a variety of work related to digital strategy, marketing, and communications: public affairs, social media, analytics, graphic design, video production, photography, marketing campaigns, web design, UX, press events, community relations, outreach, and project management.

In 2018, I teamed up with a few other creatives and implemented the first-ever design week in Sacramento, leading social media outreach and assisting with event management. This led to the foundation of Design Sacramento in 2019. As the Vice President of the board and Communications Chair for Design Sacramento, I utilized audience research for outreach and decision-making.

I am passionate about digital communications and helping organizations communicate effectively and strategically. Check out my projects page to better understand my approach to problem solving and digital marketing.

Internal Communications

In 2018, I redesigned West Sacramento’s internal newsletter “Bridge to Wellness”. It consisted of a redesign of the brand elements but also outreach to ensure the promoted content resonated with the City’s 300+ staff. This project received the best-in-show and best in the category for internal communications from California Association for Public Information Officials (CAPIO).

Marketing & Communications

Via’s city-run rideshare program was first of it’s kind and developed in 2018 by the City of West Sacramento. We received California Association for Public Information Officials (CAPIO)’s Epic Award for our outreach and marketing of this new and unique community program. The biggest success was that word of this program spread to other agencies in the United States such as Arlington, Cupertino and Los Angeles.
