How to Plan Content
I’m always asked, how do I plan content? It’s a great question. For the most part, every client is going to have different needs. However, I’ve found that most clients do have similar dynamics that make for great content. Here are those basic categories:
Holidays
The annual holidays make for great planned content: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, New Years Day, etc... If your business has closures, or specials for these holidays then it’s great to highlight this information with a nice festive spin. Additionally, “social media holidays” (otherwise known as fun national holidays) are also great! Depending on your business, there’s usually a fun way to tie in a “national holiday”. Services
Every business, agency or professional has a service that they offer. Highlighting or promoting these services on a regular basis is easy to plan for but may require some extra thought to keep it interesting and dynamic. However, committing to one or two posts a week that just focus on the services you provide, makes for great regular content!
Employees
Occasionally featuring your employees is great for building a more personal image of your organization or business! Committing to sharing something related to employees such as awards, recognitions, promotions or features semi-regularly can help beef up your planned content. Depending on the platform you can do this daily (LinkedIn) or weekly (Instagram/Facebook). If you don’t have employees, consider occasional posting content that shows insight into your process or is more personal.
When first starting your social media accounts, planning content will help build your online presence and establish a good tone for your account! It’s important to figure out how many days a week you can commit to posting. Remember to post at LEAST once a week on each platform to stay relevant. Once you’ve committed, plan content around that. That could be as simple as a weekly service post, Employee Feature Fridays and/or holiday posts.
Remember to have fun with it and adjust as necessary! Always pay attention to what your audience wants to see and provide more types of content that help you successfully reach your goals. Good luck!
