Let’s Talk About LinkedIn
In my professional opinion, LinkedIn has really upped their game over the last year when it comes to in-app metrics and analytics. While not every business needs to have a robust LinkedIn presence, some sort of presence is good. Unlike other platforms, LinkedIn is one of the few platforms I will ever say you should “have one to have one”.
Let me elaborate. I don’t mean start it, and then never touch it again. If you have an actual business with a store front, brand, identity and employees, register your business as a company page so your employees can clearly point to your business page as their employer. If people search for your company name, there should be some sort of general information about you on your LinkedIn: a mission statement, company size, website and location. It’s great for establishing legitimacy in a digital space that is all about business.
As for the analytics piece, depending on what services you provide, you can learn more about people who visit your page such as location, industries, job type or even job level. This may be valuable information that shows you what type of people are interested in working for you, planning to use your business or just showing you how far you’re reaching geographically.
I love that LinkedIn doesn’t just show you insights from who’s already following you but who’s viewed your page. This is very helpful for creating target audiences since you can compare who you’re successfully reaching and who you should be targeting more specifically.
These insights won’t be helpful unless you’re driving users with content. LinkedIn related content is business focused: employee features, business/industry news, hiring posts and surveys. LinkedIn’s feed life is very different than other platforms. Content life is typically longer than 48 hours because content from days or week prior can pop up on someone’s feed if enough of their network, or close network connections, engage with it. So posting something once a week is often considered “good enough” to be relevant on the platform. This is not the case for many other platforms which is great news for everyone who doesn’t have a lot of time for creating content!
That’s all I have for you today. Until next time!
